Welcome!

Welcome to the school counseling page here at Oliveira Elementary School!

Meet your school counselor

Hello, my name is Jennifer Carpio, and it is an honor to say that I am the new school counselor here at Oliveira!

I am originally from Barranquilla, Colombia - a beautiful country filled with warm people and various cultures. I moved to the U.S. when I was 14 years old and have loved it ever since! I studied psychology at San Francisco State University and received my master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco.

I decided to become a school counselor to provide students with support and guidance through any problems or hardships that they may face, which was not as prevalent for me at the schools I attended back in Colombia. As I continued to grow and learn about psychology and counseling, the importance of supporting our children from a young age to achieve their own personal successes by developing healthy social, emotional, and academic skills became more and more evident. I believe that had I been provided a stronger support system during my early education, it would have made my educational experience as a young child easier and more beneficial. As the school counselor here at Oliveira, I want to make myself available to provide that support system to help enable and achieve those socioemotional and academic goals for the students.

What is my goal?

As a school counselor my goal is to provide students with the proper guidance and support according to their own individual needs. This can be done by providing short-term individual counseling or group counseling focused on their specific needs. Additionally, the students will see me in classrooms giving presentations on a variety of topics, that include self control, friendship resolutions, among others.
